Youth Department Leadership

From Dan Deeble: I am very pleased to announce that our Executive Pastor, Jim Gum, will now also oversee HCC's Student Ministries. With his extensive experience as both an Area and Regional Director with Young Life, Jim brings nearly 30 years of youth expertise to the table. His primary responsibilities will be to vision cast, provide parent support, help develop our South Service student ministry, and - most importantly - to supervise those who directly lead these ministries (Caley Bowen and Shibu Mathew, our High School and Middle School Pastors, respectively). Heartland's youth is one of our greatest growth opportunities and I'm very excited to see the impact of Jim's leadership.

30,000 cars a day?

From Jeff Haney, Heartland member and on the Real Estate Search team: One thing that I have heard Dan mention on several occasions is the 30,000 cars per day passing the Rhodes facility and the first time I heard it I just thought that seemed really low. When he mentioned it again, I had to find out what the latest daily count was for I-35. You will have to zoom in on the traffic count map from the Kansas Department of Transportation a little bit, but as of two years ago the ADT was somewhere between 118,000 cars per day and 102,000 per day. Just a little commercial real estate geek coming out in me, but 100,000 cars per day are going to be able to see our new home and I just that might add to the great story you and the rest of the team are building for our new home.

Heartland Community Church Burglary

The South Service team learned early morning on February 1st that the garage at the Rhodes facility had been burglarized. Approximately $5000 of sound equipment was stolen out of the van inside the garage. Nick Nave and his music team were able to rally with the situation and provide an "unplugged" worship experience. In the meantime, the Olathe Police Department is investigating and HCC staff and volunteers have worked to increase the security of the space out at Rhodes. What You Do Best

Eighty people gathered last Tuesday for our first of many, "What You Do Best" 4-week classes that will be offered this spring in summer. Through the class exercises and group discussion, each member will have the opportunity to learn their spiritual gifts, skills, and passions along with their unique serving style. This is part of our strategy in 2009 to "Get our GO on" in preparation for the move. You may be in a small group that has completed that resource in the past year, if so, your next step is to pick up a copy of Strength Finders 2.0 and take the online assessment and plan on attending the Job Fair on March 10th in the auditorium.

Financial Update

Heartland's Jan. 09 ministry fund giving ($127,299) was almost identical to the Jan. 08 giving ($127,785). With our drastically reduced budget of $2.15M down from $2.45M last year, our Jan. 09 expenses were down to ($177,919) from our Jan. 08 expenses of ($189,558), a 6.1% decrease.

We are currently trending towards a 5% overage in the ministry fund. The staff is operating under a spending freeze and we will continue to monitor our progress monthly. Thanks for your generosity and partnership.

In addition, over 118 people currently make recurring online gifts through MyHeartland. Login to MyHeartland (click here if you need a password), select the 'give' button and follow the instructions on screen. It's a snap.
