 During this week of Lent, our gazes turn upward to the mountains, punctuating scripture and those silent witnesses of God’s unfolding story. We’ll explore how these elevated spaces reveal God’s majesty and presence and foreshadow the ultimate mountain: the hill of Calvary. We will trace how these mountain encounters, filled with revelation and transformation, ultimately point us to the highest peak of hope – the resurrection. For in the rising of Jesus, the ultimate mountain of death is conquered, and the landscape of our lives is forever changed. As we reflect on these sacred heights, let us discover how the mountains of Lent prepare us to receive the glorious, life-giving gift of Easter’s dawn. Right-sized Psalm 121:1-2, Romans 1:18-21 When asked, “mountains or beach?” I always say I’m a mountain kind of girl. I love the beach, but there’s something profoundly quieting about feeling small beneath a mountain. Whether for you it’s the vast expanses of the ocean or the stark power of a mountain, Lent invites us to lift our eyes—to the mountains, the earth, and the endless expanse of the sky—where God draws near, and our faith finds fresh hope. In a world that often feels weighed down by injustice and uncertainty, we are reminded that the creator of heaven and earth, the author of all, reigns with power and purpose. Though I may never see the summit or imagine the views beyond, I take comfort in knowing that God guides my path toward that sacred place he has prepared. He desires to meet me there. It is here, on this holy ground, that his eternal might and invisible qualities are revealed over and over again. Every mountain, every stretch of colorful sky, every star scattered across a moonlit night testifies quietly to his majesty and sovereignty. We are right-sized in God’s majestic creation—each of us perfectly placed to experience his nearness. Creation around us offers us endless opportunities to refresh our hearts and lift our spirits. Lent can become a pilgrimage, inviting us to draw closer to the realization that God’s divine authority is woven into every aspect of creation. His presence is evident in everything if we only have eyes to see it. Prayer for Today: Lord, as I journey through this season, open my eyes to the wonders of your creation. Everywhere, in everything and everyone. May every sunrise, every mountain peak, and every star remind me of your power, authority, and presence. Guide me to that sacred place where your nearness is deeply experienced, and my heart overflows with gratitude for you and the creation you allow me to experience at every turn. Amen.
