![]() Turning our attention to the symbol of water, a substance deeply intertwined with purification, life, and healing, we will experience the transformative power of Jesus. Jesus frequently uses water as a conduit for his literal and metaphorical restorative touch. As we delve into these passages, let us consider how water, in its fluidity, reflects the flowing grace and life-giving presence of Jesus. May these readings remind us that, even in our own periods of dryness and spiritual thirst, Jesus offers a wellspring of healing, washing away our burdens and renewing us from within. A collective reflection on God’s grace and our chances for renewal Tuesday, April 1, 2025 |
With me no matter what Luke 5:1-10 One day, as Jesus was preaching on the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee, many different people began to surround him. People in this period had many beliefs about Jesus, who he was, and what he could do for others. Jesus noticed two empty boats at the shoreline and walked over to check them out. He ran into Simon, who informed Jesus about the lack of fish he and his people had caught. Jesus suggested they enter deeper waters to catch more fish. Doubt grew in Simon as he informed Jesus of their struggle, having already gone into deep waters. Jesus persisted, so Simon took a leap of faith in Jesus even though it hadn’t worked out for him in the first place. Simon was distant from his faith at this moment but continued to push on, throwing the net out one last time. Through tears, he shouted for help from his other partners. They rushed out to help pull in the massive catch with more boats. There were so many fish even the boats barely made it back to shore. Simon realized how Jesus had just helped them. “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” (Luke 5:8-9). Simon was awestruck by the number of fish they had all caught, as were the others with him. One of my takeaways from this story is how our faith in Jesus can positively impact our day-to-day lives. Without Jesus, they wouldn’t have caught any more fish that day. Simon’s faith in Jesus was enough to go out again, trusting that something might happen. And it did! The boats were so full they were almost sinking below the water level. Trusting and following Jesus’ advice can help us and the people around us get farther than we can imagine. I often struggle with my faith, and that’s okay because I know even through struggles, he will always be there for me. No matter how many sins I commit or how many bad things I do, no matter what. Jesus will always be by my side. Prayer for today: Dear heavenly Father, thank you so much for getting us closer to this passage. Help us understand that when we put our minds to you and believe in you, no matter what comes our way, you will always make it better and help us push harder no matter the obstacle or the circumstance. So, heavenly Father, draw us closer and help us be more familiar with you and your presence even when times get tough. I pray this in your holy name, amen. By Noah Hodnefield |
