Jesus bridges the gap Ephesians 2:1-6, John 5:24 When I was little, death was always something that frightened me. It would keep me up many nights and make me stir crazy. The death I envisioned at that time was too simple. It was literal death. Not the death in the sense of death to myself to live for Jesus. Ephesians 2 shows the contrast between life before finding Jesus versus new life while following him. In verses 1-3, we are described as dead, disobedient, enslaved, and the objects of God’s anger. In contrast, verses 4-6 show that we are loved, alive, raised from death, united with Jesus, and objects of his grace as we follow him. Let’s listen and believe these words about Jesus. We will not come under judgment but have passed from death to life, a state of growing spiritually and being near to him. We can live knowing we are alive and held near once we live through Jesus, who died for us. We are alive through Jesus and can share that passion, joy, love, and knowledge with others. This promise of eternal life frees us from the fear of physical death. How can you embrace the identity that comes from following Jesus, that you are loved, alive, and free in grace? Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us access to your knowledge. We know that you have given us the keys to life with you. You provide us with life and the opportunity to be near you and your glorious throne in heaven. You give us grace that we can pass on to others as well. Help us slow down our hearts and breath to remember the breath in our lungs is accessible through your mercy. Thank you to Jesus, who bridges the gap between heaven and earth. Lord, thank you for your love and grace. Amen. By Aiden Turner |
